| Sunset - L'Anse Aux Meadows |
New…found…land
An old friend and I took a trip.
We drove, then flew
to a wild and wonderful island
in Canada -
Newfoundland.
In the company
of like-minded people,
wide-open waters,
rumpled mountains,
mantle-rock tablelands,
and ancient fjords
we frolicked together.
Somehow,
under changing skycapes,
in varied winds and weather
I found… new… land
in me.
Familiar doubts slid away
and I felt strong, accomplished, free.
Pedaling on undulating coastal roads,
paddling near a place called The Tickle,
swimming at sunrise in Portland Creek Pond,
watching a sunset unfold over a quiet cove,
sitting by seaside cliffs at Fishing Point,
standing where the Norse first set foot in North America,
gazing upward at waterfalls vaporizing from towering cliffs…
anything that was bound unloosened.
Now, back at home,
I understand that what I discovered
has been part of my
inner landscape all along.
This new… found… land
is simply more
of the fullness of me.
Here I am -
safe and sound,
my reflections
expanding softly.
